Dear Friends of the Mordecai Project:
These words from John 16 jumped off the page at me today: “Whenever a woman is in labor she has pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a child has been born into the world” (v. 21).
This spoke to me because I’m carrying a dream that has not yet been born. I dream of a day when The Mordecai Project will fully operate ministries in numerous countries—not just in our Phase One locations but in many other places. It’s painful right now but I know we will soon see the breakthrough. Please pray with us for favor and miraculous provision of finances!
We are one step closer to “birth” in Guatemala. As you can see in the photo below, construction continues on Casa de Estér, our women’s counseling center and shelter. I visited our team last month there and had a wonderful time encouraging Pastor Otto and Ilma Morales and the church that is sponsoring this project.
While in Guatemala I preached at two pastors conferences in the cities of Gualan and Zacapa, and at meetings in Saspán and at our host church, Iglesia Nueva Vision in Rio Hondo. Below you can see my team: Pastor Ricardo Quinteros and Rodrigo Blanco, who came from El Salvador, and Hao Xu, a Chinese brother who traveled with me from the United States. The Guatemalans were so excited because it was the first time they ever met someone from China!
The pastors’ meeting in Gualan was powerful. I preached on the need for discipleship, and people ran to the altar after I talked about how Elisha chased after Elijah for the double portion mantle. There is such intense spiritual hunger in Guatemala. God did a powerful work in the hearts of the people that night—and pastors are being more intentional about reaching the next generation.
When I did the pastors’ meeting in Zacapa, I gave many of them copies of my book “Set My Heart on Fire” in Spanish. Many of these leaders also came to the altar for prayer because they are going through serious challenges in their marriages. God is healing men’s hearts so that abuse can end in this part of the world!
Below you can see me with Hao Xu; my translator, Neville; and Pastor Otto, who has been partnering with me and The Mordecai Project for 15 years since I first visited Guatemala. Please pray that God will supply the final funds needed to finish the women’s shelter. As soon as the building is finished we will be training our counselors.
Later in April I traveled to Detroit to do a weekend of special services at Christ Community Church. My buddy Doyle Piper from Minneapolis joined me on this trip and he was such a blessing. Below you can see Doyle praying at the all-day prophetic seminar we did. God released such deep encouragement to the people that weekend.
I am grateful for my new friend Tim Tyler, pastor of Christ Community Church in Detroit. My life is richer because I have men like him in my life. The Lord did some special things that Sunday morning when I taught on the Holy Spirit’s ministry. Many people were filled with the Spirit.
Last week I spent three days teaching at Randy Clark’s Global School of Supernatural Ministry in Pennsylvania. This is the eighth year that I have been a part of the faculty there, and they have asked me to teach a special course of Biblical Foundations for Women in Ministry. Below you can see the guys in the class praying over and blessing the female students. Everyone was encouraged, not just the women!
Something amazing happened on the first day of the class. I met a young woman who had just returned from a mission trip to Central Asia, where I visited in March. We had been in the same places, and this girl feels called to live there as a missionary. She was blown away that I knew about the crisis of abuse that exists among women there. She is called to address this! Stay tuned because I believe we will be doing a project in that region one day.
Calling all CHILD SPONSORS!
We are ready to unveil our next level of sponsorship for girls, and we need additional people to help us. Many girls in Africa are denied education simply because of their gender. Often their parents pull them out of school if finances are tight. Our projects in Uganda, Kenya and Malawi will require us to recruit sponsors to help us cover the costs of school fees, hygiene and meals.
Please consider sponsoring one of our girls in one of these countries for just $30 per month. Just go to themordecaiproject.org and go to Donate. You will be given the option to choose a country, and you can set up monthly sponsorship there or give online each month.
Please pray for PAKISTAN
You probably read about the Christian woman who was killed in Pakistan last month simply because she did not agree to a marriage proposal. We are ready to launch a project in Pakistan with our partners there, but we need about $500 to begin. Please pray about this if you are burdened for this country. We will be launching several initiatives to empower women and to address the problem of abuse.
Please join us for BOLD VENTURE!
Our next men’s Bold Venture discipleship retreat will take place July 12-14 in LaGrange, Georgia at New Community Church, which is my local congregation. This special event will include messages from my mentor of 45 years, Barry St. Clair. We will also be celebrating my 60th birthday during the retreat! I hope all of you men can attend. Just go to boldventure.org to register.

Many women have been asking about the next Bold Venture women’s event. That will take place Sept. 20-22 in the Atlanta area (Douglasville, Georgia), and will feature several speakers including June Evans! We have limited space so please register early by going to boldventure.org.
Many of you have asked about my mother, Jean Grady. She is still grieving my dad’s death, and it has not been an easy time for her. Yesterday she read a book about grief that one of you sent her. We are praying about options for her care. Please be praying for us as we navigate this season. I am planning a party at the end of the month to celebrate her 90th birthday!
Thank you so much for all you do for us. Deborah and I are grateful for the prayers, financial support and the encouragement that you send us through texts, phone calls, emails and Facebook posts. We are in the middle of “childbirth” right now—please pray for a smooth and speedy delivery of God’s big promise! We love you.
